Why is the seat recline not completely horizontal?
It would exceed the allowable recline angles set by ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) for carriages and strollers. ASTM standards are voluntary standards for quality & safety to which BOB adheres.
How far does the seat recline?
The seat (for 2007 and newer stroller models) reclines 70° from vertical. This is a 25° increase over previous models.
What is the difference between the four BOB Stroller models?
All BOB strollers are designed with features that will accommodate your versatile needs.
The Revolution is our most versatile stroller. It is designed for those who are in town, running errands just as much as hiking or jogging. The swivel wheel allows you to easily maneuver around tight corners and shopping aisles. You can also lock the front wheel to a fixed position for running and off-road use.
The Revolution 12” AW offers the maneuverability and versatility of the Revolution stroller kicked up a notch. Its three smaller 12” aluminum wheels enable increased mobility in crowded aisles and cramped elevators over the Revolution's combination of one 12" and two 16" high-impact polymer wheels. The lightest of the Revolution strollers, it’s just as easy to fold up for travel and storage. The Revolution 12” AW is ideal for urban living.
The original Sport Utility Stroller has knobby tires for better traction on dirt roads, trails and the beach. The lightweight fixed front wheel design is ideal for everything from casual neighborhood use, to hard-core straight-line running or jogging. The Sport Utility Stroller is equipped with both a front hand brake for slowing down, as well as a rear foot brake for parking.
The Ironman stroller is the lightest of the BOB line, and the high-quality slick tires minimize rolling resistance while the stiffer suspension maximizes maneuverability and response. Ideal for those whose focus is road running, the Ironman also has both a front hand brake for slowing down as well as a foot brake for parking.
All BOB models offer three inches of suspension, full seat recline and lead the industry in how easy the stroller can be folded.
What is the age recommendation for BOB Strollers? We recommend that your child should be at least 8 weeks old before riding in a BOB stroller. Please note that babies incapable of holding their head up must have additional head and neck support to ride safely and comfortably. For jogging or off-road stroller use, children should be at least 8 months old.
With the addition of the Infant Car Seat Adapter, newborns can safely ride in the stroller. This accessory will allow parents to use select Infant car Seats with single and double seat BOB Strollers, and will work with the best selling Infant Car Seat models available.
Consult with your pediatrician regarding the suitability of stroller use with your child.
What is the difference between the BOB SUS standard model and the D'Lux model?
The only difference between the standard and D'Lux Sport Utility Stroller is the wheel set. The standard has high-impact polymer wheels; the D'Lux has wheels with an aluminum hub, stainless-steel spokes and an aluminum-alloy rim. Both wheel sets use the same tire, tube and high-quality sealed-cartridge bearings. A polymer wheel weighs only 2 ounces more than a D'Lux wheel. The D'Lux wheel does support higher tire pressure. The difference between these wheels is primarily aesthetic, and polymer wheels are much less expensive to manufacture, allowing us to offer the standard at a lower retail price.
Why does BOB use a 16-inch wheel instead of a larger (20-inch) wheel?
Some people are concerned that a stroller with 16" wheels will be more difficult to push than one with 20" wheels. Rolling resistance is a function of several variables. In most cases a 20" wheel will roll more easily than will a 16" wheel. But with a suspension system like the one found on our strollers, that general rule does not necessarily apply. Numerous Ironman and world class athletes who are parents and run with our stroller report that the 16” wheel performance with our design is exceptional.
Each time the wheel strikes an object, even a small piece of gravel or a crack in the sidewalk, it does two things:
The tire deforms and absorbs some of the energy of the impact.
The tire rolls over the object and lifts the stroller, its occupant, and its cargo.
Both of these actions result in energy loss as well as displacement. With an effective suspension system, tire deflection and stroller lift is dramatically reduced. In many cases, this creates lower rolling resistance than you would experience with a stroller that has larger wheels but no suspension.
What do I do if my tire is flat?
Each tire has an inner tube that simply needs to be patched or replaced when punctured. Just like the tires on your car, a tire can go flat from road debris such as broken glass, thorns, etc. All manufactures of jogging strollers use a tire and inner tube to help keep the weight of the stroller to a minimum and provide a smooth ride for your child. New tubes can be purchased at your local bike shop. We suggest asking about thorn resistant tubes to help reduce the amount of future flats.
If my stroller pulls to one direction, how do I correct the tracking? The first thing you will want to do is make sure the tire pressure is set to 30 psi on all tires. If one tire is lower than the other, the stroller will tend to pull in that direction. You can also try rotating your front wheel and make sure your dropouts are aligned. If your stroller model is a 2005 and newer, it will have tracking adjustment knobs on the fork. Please see your manual for detailed instructions on how to adjust the tracking.
What can I do if my stroller starts to shake? Do you run with the front wheel in swivel mode? That would lead to the stroller shaking and we recommend that you run or jog with the front wheel locked out for safety reasons. If that’s not the issue, then it sounds like you have a loose headset. Your local BOB dealer or bike shop can have it repaired for you.
My Sun Canopy has loosened several times, what can I do? Our most recent hardware will prevent the sun canopy from loosening. This new kit includes new bonnet pucks, new bolts with thread-locking compound, washers, and locking nuts that will keep the sun canopy tight. The hardware upgrades are easy to install and can be purchased through your local dealer.
My stroller has some squeaks. How do I get rid of them? 1. To eliminate squeaking noises use a light lubricant. Any bicycle lubricant (Tri-Flow, Pedro's, etc.) will work, as will sewing-machine oil, or 3-in-1 oil. Lubricate the following points. (Points #1 and #2 are the most probable points.)
The stroller frame pivots on a tubular metal axle, both when absorbing bumps, and when folding the stroller. This axle pivot is located at the top of the rear swing arms (the rectangular tubes that run to the rear wheels). You can see the end of the axle pivot through the black plastic triangular bracket.
2. As the swing arm moves, the top of the swing arm can rub slightly on the inner faces of the black triangular bracket. A small amount of lube applied to the inner faces should do the trick.
The shock absorbers on our strollers are comprised of a coil metal spring and an elastomer core. Lubricant should be periodically applied to the spring to reduce squeaks. To apply the lubricant, you may find it easiest to flip the stroller upside down. Then you can apply a small amount of lubricant to the chromed shaft of the shock. The oil will travel down the shaft and into the shock housing. After you compress the shock a few times the lubrication should effectively coat the contact areas
Since the handlebar is attached to the stroller by means of a black plastic bracket, squeaks can occur at this juncture. Drop a slight amount of lube on each point where the metal handlebar tube contacts the bracket (inner and outer) faces on right and left sides.
Why doesn't BOB offer an adjustable handlebar? All of the BOB Strollers have been designed with the handlebar at one permanent height for two reasons. The first is to maintain the structural integrity and durability of the stroller. By adding more moving parts to allow for an adjustable handlebar, there is an increased potential for parts failure. The second is to keep the weight of our strollers to a minimum. More parts will add weight to the stroller. Our focus is to design a strong, durable, lightweight stroller for various outdoor activities.
Do you have a kit to convert a BOB stroller into a trailer? We do not make trailer/stroller conversion units. The center of gravity on our strollers is significantly higher than that on a bike trailer. Additionally, the stroller has a much narrower wheelbase. For a trailer to be stable, it needs a low center of gravity and wide wheelbase. Because of these differing design requirements, the stroller cannot be adapted as a safe bike trailer.
